Spatial Variation of Sound Field in Large Spaces

There is a growing number of large spaces but their sound fields have not been studied systematically. The aim of this study is to explore the behaviour of reverberation time and sound pressure level in this kind of spaces. Acoustic measurement was carried out in two large spaces. The results show that in the near-source field, the sound pressure level and reverberation time vary rapidly with the increase of source-receiver distance and EDT shows more distance sensitivity than T20. In the far-source field, the sound pressure level attenuates slightly while the reverberation time has little variation. These features are rather different from other spaces such as small rooms and long rooms.
